At Tempest, health is only secondary to temperament in our breeding program.

AmStaffs are a relatively healthy breed, however there are some issues that are of concern. At Tempest, we test for all health issues required and recommended by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals‘ CHIC testing program specific to our breed. This includes hips, elbows, cardiac, autoimmune thyroiditis, ataxia and eye exams. In addition to OFA, we also do full DNA health panels on our breeding dogs (Embark and/or Paw Print Genetics), as well as color testing.
